Beyoncé's acting career began in 2001 in the musical film Carmen: A Hip Hopera. In 2006, she starred in the film Dreamgirls, which is based on the Broadway musical from 1981 with the same name. She was nominated for two Golden Globe for her role.

Business magazine Forbes placed Knowles in fourth place among the 100 most powerful and influential celebrities in the world, third among musicians who earn the most and first among celebrities under 30 who earn the most, with more than 87 million dollars in earnings between 2008 and 2009.
